JWC is led by James Walker
James is a sustainability, corporate affairs and strategy consultant. He has previously held executive leadership roles at Porter Novelli (Clemenger Group), the Ministry for the Environment and Countdown supermarkets focussed on communications and sustainability.
He has developed sustainability strategies for a range of organisations as a leader and a consultant. He has provided communications and advocacy advice to a range of corporate, government and not-for-profit clients.
James has been involved in leading a number of nationally significant campaigns and initiatives, including:
– The phase-out of single use plastic bags (at Countdown first, then at MfE)
– The public engagement and consultation that led to the development of the Zero Carbon Act
– The communications strategy behind “Unite Against Covid-19” campaign
– The launch of the New Zealand Plastics Declaration
– The establishment of The Aotearoa Circle
James is also the inaugural Chair of Mindful Fashion New Zealand, a start-up industry collective of clothing and textiles businesses focussed on sustainable growth.
He is a former New Zealand diplomat, including serving as New Zealand’s Deputy Ambassador to the Netherlands, Finland, Denmark and Norway.
James holds a BA/BCom from the University of Auckland, and a Masters of Arts (Journalism) from NYU.
